Word of Hands is a church open to the Deaf Community, BSL users, and any hearing person who wants a church with a difference! We all share the same experience, the love of God in a united family of Christ. The Bible teaches that the Church body has many parts but they are all part of the same whole. These different parts can be language, culture, whether you are Deaf or Hearing but we bring these together and worship together as one unit.
Word of Hands services are led in British Sign Language with an English voice-over. The worship is unique, integrating Deaf and Hearing people using DVDs with uplifting music, subtitles and Deaf Signed Worship leaders also providing LightHouse Kids in a bi-lingual environment.
Word of Hands began in June 2009 and we are on a journey that brings us all, Deaf or Hearing, to the love of Christ, fellowshipping in unity and obeying His teaching.
The vision for Word of Hands is to be like a LightHouse to the Deaf Community across Midlands, UK and the World. To share the Good News (Word) through our hands (Hands), develop disciples of Christ Jesus in our communities, equipped to use their natural, talent and spiritual gifts to serve in God’s Kingdom.
Our aim is to teach, grow and outreach.
Word of Hands is focused on the language and culture of British Sign Language accessible to anyone, rather than the labels of ‘deaf’ and ‘hearing’ and the separation of people into groups. We want to create a new Christian culture without ‘medical labels’, where people can worship God, in unity, sharing the same language.
The aim for Word of Hands is to spread the Good News about Christ Jesus through our hands with English voice-over. Through true integration we believe we will experience growth and unity in families, friends and communities.
Word of Hands church is the first of its kind, fully integrating Deaf, Hearing BSL users, as well as those who may not yet know BSL. The church has been blessed with three prophecies, each separately confirming that we are to be a ‘lighthouse’ or beacon to the hearing and Deaf Christian communities. We pray that other churches will look to Word of Hands and adopt this model, so that the gospel can be spread to the wider community.
John 8:12 (NIV)
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
